Where are all the new members?

I've noticed we've had about 6 new members join the forum in the last week, but none of them have introduced themselves or tried to post Where have they gone? Has the forum got some sort of "Black Hole"
Come on guys! where are you! Why sign up if your not going to join in!!
keesie25

You are right Karl. I remember this subject has been discussed before, people singing up, and then no posts at all. I don't think there is any point in doing that, because even as a guest you can see all postings, right?
junkman

perhaps they signed up to vote in the next competition
scotty

Maybe they are shy
keesie25

Good one Junkman!

i came here as a nobody.... i'm still nobody but i am learning to try and keep up with you guys and Alice.... Thank You for making me feel at home

No you can't see all the posts. The general diecast I can't, and the restorations I can't unless I sign in. But, yeah why sign up if you are not going to speak up? Maybe you new guys also have great collections, or some restoration ideas that we haven't heard.
ALI-G

It would be very nice to see some of the new members post after all we need all needed to start somewhere and like Neil says they might have more ideas than what we have

But if they  do not decide to post

Andi, you aren't a nobody. You are an average Joe like the rest of us who share the common interest of diecast

keesie25

Good one Ali!
scotty

I see a new member has introduced themselves and has already shown some restorations and that is a good thing for the forum

Perhaps they sign up just to read the messages in the threads they can't read as a guest.
When they don't like what they see or can't find what they are looking for, they don't bother coming back again.

or, perhaps they are just looking for information?

How many times have you found a link to something you are looking for on a forum, signed in either found or not found what you are looking for and never gone back again or just plain forgotten what you logged in as and the password.
I know I have.

I get what you are saying i am a member of other forums but cant remember my user name and password and thinking about it some forums i have joined i cant remember ether
keesie25

So (Gaz), a guest can see all posts, right? The only difference with a member is that he cannot post I think.
Gaz

Guests can only see the forum rules and Diecast Chat.
They cannot see any other posts made.
They cannot post in any thread.
I also have a rule that if I see a new member not joining in, i.e. posting, I sumise they are just on our forum to spy, so their account would be de-activated. Easy!

I thought you had to join to read all the posts and i was right i have been right on 2 things today time to go see the doctor i think

I also remember the rule about joining but not posting and that's how it should be good job Gaz
keesie25

Gaz, isn't it easier to build in, if possible, that you can ONLY become a member if you post at least one message?
scotty

If i am right Gaz there is a time limit new members have before there account is removed and as far as i know you cant post until you join so it would be impossible to post before you become a member
Gaz

Your right, my rule of thumb, is that if youv'e been on over a fortnight and have'nt bothered posting, then I'm sumising that the new member isn't really interested in our forum, so then I'd start thinking of deactivating their account. Same goes for anyone that I think has only wrote a few posts, but frequents our forum often.

I know what to look out for now, after 4 years.
scotty

I though i was and the way you do it is right and i would do the same if i had a forum

Yes that is correct but what i said was if i had a forum the one i am a moderator on is not mine so what i said is right helps if you read what i said in the first place after all this is exactly the type of comment you say to other members here so its a good idea to do the same yourself

Not really but Ian is the first person to point out when you don't pick up on what he says so only fair he should do the same

Hold on while I "REEL" some slack in     so whats the name of this "secret" site you are a moderator on??? it must be a secret as you have never mentioned it         or was a "BIG" nerve I struck
scotty

Ian i cant be bothered to reply to your comments any more so just Cary on at least you cant edit posts like you did to dinkycolector's as you are no longer a moderator, you will never change so no point me even bothering with you any more.

And its not a secret sight its another diecast forum and would not be right to try to promote it here as that would not be fair to Gaz only reason it was started in the first place was because of the way you were treating members here when you were a moderator so me and some of the other members here decided to go to another forum as we had enough of the way you were treating members here.
keesie25

Thanks for that Gaz.
keesie25

I don't really know what to say on things happening right now in this thread. All I can say is, that it is a sort of relief that I am not the only one that had an argument...........and before I know it, I am the one who did it.
