Veteran

Today I officially became a forces veteran.  The postman has just delivered my lapel badge and certificate of service. I served in the Royal marines during the 90s. The title of veteran makes me feel quite old even at the tender age of 44 . All ex service personel of the Armed forces are entitled to the badge after submitting there service number to the association. I will wear mine with pride.

Many congratulations, Corgi, yes, wear it with pride my friend, you have earned the honour.
Gaz

Yes, congratulations Gary, there are people out here that appriciate the job you done, and know what you went through to get your Green Beret. Although you deserve your medal, in my eyes you, and lots of other soldiers deserve a lot more than that
keesie25

Congrats Corgi! No doubt, when you don't wear it, you will put it away safely in a cupboard, behind glass. Taking the place of a model, which you can send to me of course.....joke.

I got my Veteran's badge about 3 months ago. Now all I need is a jacket to wear it on!!!

C.K. I can't thank you enough for posting this

I served in the Army from 1966-81 and knew nothing about this

Wear yours with pride, I know I will. Being 61, I guess the word vetern fits.

Peter.

Now on my fav' list.

Well done Gary

Do you know if reservists can apply?  I was in the RNVR for several years and I'd love to have one to wear with pride.

Yes Tom, All reservists from the Armed  forces are entitled to wear the badge. Part time soldiers have contributed massivly in all theatres over the years. If you go to the link you can down load the application form.
you dont have to be exact with your dates of service. Just make sure you include your service number. Thats It.

I salute you. People that sleep at night, walk to the store for a loaf of bread instead of running to dodge bullets owe you for the security and safety we all enjoy. Thank you....

Sorry, I forgot.   And tbh, I am not looking forward to delving into a HUGE box of old paperwork to find my old service number!

I'll have to be brave because I think it's worth doing, I'll just have to pluck up the courage!
Corgi kid

You cant remember your service number.....
I know mine better than my own name... . Probably because I said It more times than I care to remember.......
Ken R

Used the link CK and got mine through about 3 weeks ago, like you, I shall wear it with pride
Guzzi Gadgy

Tom how can you forget your number. Even my wife remembers mine. The first number I can remember having to learn (and I still know it) was my NI number.

My army no started 2394 I'll keep the last 3 to myself national security

Whats yours Cogie.    Bet Toms is the oldest

Probably more like " IVXMCCI" !! I bet they didn't have numbers when Tom was in, they all knew each other by name !!!!

Ken thats awful........         Sorry Tom.
Old Tom

Boo Hoo... sniff.......  just because I helped Moses build the Ark doesn't mean I'm immune to ageist comments!

I was in the RNR so there was never that much call to quote your service number - everyone knew everyone and apart from that, your name was prominently displayed on your shirt front!  (And I was never a defaulter so didn't even have to do a 'Stand to attention! Off Cap!'.  (smirk) )

I carry a small card in my wallet to remind me of my home and mobile tel No's

Ask me my army No and I can still rattle it of without having to think: 2404****

Congratulations.
Its a pity the New Zealand Government don't recognise the fact that those who stay behind are as equally important as those that go overseas.

If they did I should get two veteran badges as I served in both the Army and the Air Force for a combined total of just over 16 years.

On the 27th of May next year it will have been 52 years ago since I joined the NZ Army.
