Strange Ebayer

I bought 2 seperate items from a UK-Ebayer. The seller added that each item was 4.25 pounds to send abroad.
This is what happened:

Hi,
Bought 2 of your Corgi's today, sent a message about combined postage/sending, but no reply. So second request.
Regards
Keesie

I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO REPLY WITHIN THE 12 HOUR RULE ,BUT I HAVE GIVEN YOU A DISCOUNT AS I CHARGE EXTRA FOR OVERSEAS POSTING.I LEFT A MESSAGE WITH ONE OF THE INVOICES (seller)

Extra charge for overseas posting should be normal. I will pay you NOW, and of course then you will send in two parcels, right? Also, the total postage will be 3+4.25
Regards
Keesie

As I always send a  message when I recieve or send a parcel, here it is:
I just recieved your envelop with the two models. I noticed the postage paid was 2.55 pounds. Because I paid you 7.25 pounds for postage, can you please  put  4.70 pounds back into my account please?

Heyup Keesie

I don't expect he gets his packaging free so you need to allow a bit for that... otherwise I think he's overcharged you somewhat

overcharged

Keesie,

I had one just like that recently. I was charged 9 pounds airmail for one Vanguards model thinking it would be "signed-for" delivery. The parcel arrived (unsigned for) and the actual postage was less than half. Even allowing 2 pounds for materials I was well overcharged. Email to the seller got no response to I left neutral feedback. Some sellers are tring to make up for low sales prices by overcharging for P&P.

On the other hand I have received similar parcels for just 3.50 airmail
Gizmouk

You're right Stuart

It's a fine line between covering your costs & ripping off your customers. I sometimes guess at postage costs and if I decide I've charged too much after posting when I know the real cost I issue a refund of the difference. I want people to come back again...

Thanks friends, Giz, as I said, he sent in a jiffybag (which suited me actually, the models were for spare parts anyway), but let's face it, about 5 pounds for just a jiffybag is a bit to much. Also, as you can see in the more or less one way communication, I suggested to send in two parcels for that price....and postage he wanted to charge for ONE parcel was even more expensive than sending BOTH models in one parcel.
By the way, I bought some models for spares from him before, for which he charged normal postage, so he knows the postal rates.
Well, let's see what his answer will be.
Stu, I am only buying on EBay, so if the seller will not do anything, I will leave him negative on the postal aspect.

He also mentioned something about not permitting to reply because of the '12 hour rule' . Never heard of that, has anyone?
Mr.Blunden

I have not heard of the 12 hour rule as such, but sellers are sometimes not allowed to reply to messages by eBay, in case they are trying to do a deal off eBay. It may be that you asked your question or he went to answer, within the last 12 hours of the listing, which would stop your question being posted on the listing.
keesie25

Thanks Mr Blunden, the bidding was over, and I was highest. Only THEN I asked a question. Then I asked the question again when there was no answer, and only then there was a reply. Not that it mattered, just wanted to be complete, that's all.
Duncan

He is clearly overcharging to avoid ebay fees. I'd be very tempted to report it to ebay.
Andrew

I know it's a regular subject here - but you have to factor postage into the price you bid on eBay, as more and more sellers are loading the P&P. I mostly buy big batch lots on ebay and I count the number of models in the batch, decide what is a reasonable per model value and use that to arrive at an acceptable price for the lot, subtract the shipping cost and stick the difference in Auction Sentry and forget about it.

If I win the lot - great - if not, someone else has paid too much.
keesie25

Good point of view Andrew. I can follow you, when talking about a lot of models in one go, and deviding the postage costs between the models.

But as I said, charging about 5 pounds for a jiffybag......

Here's the further communication about the subject, which was done this morning.......

*Dear dimaxpoppy,* (why not mention the seller)

This is my second request, about items 320432092164/320432097376.The one underneath was sent 2 days ago.

As I always send a message when I recieve or send a parcel, here it is:
I just recieved your envelop with the two models. I noticed the postage paid was 2.55 pounds. Because I paid you 7.25 pounds for postage, can you please put 4.70 pounds back into my account please?

i think you are forgeting one thing it postage and packing . the car does not run on fresh to get to the post office , if you are not happy with my service, do not buy.

Thanks, I am sure the 12 hour rule wasn't applied this time. I gave you a hint to send in two parcels. Never mind, I will give you some feedback in one hour.

I ave no sympathy with this seller Keesie - hammer him in your feedback !!
keesie25

Thanks Giz, I have given the feedback. Quite mild, 'neutral', saying the models were good, but 5 pounds for a jiffybag is too steep. Funny, the seller has 100 % positive (up till mine that was), and there was a similar problem with high postage quite a while ago.
