ShippingWe have discussed shipping on here before but I just shipped something to somebody in the U.K. It was a cardboard box with one model in it, under a pound (weight), measured about 6" X 6" X 4". The raw cost, the cost at the post office was $10.76!!! I was amazed. It is even higher to Italy, France and Australia is exhorbitant. I think Australia is the highest, France second if it even gets there. France has a problem with that. I shipped to China once and it was high too.
They just announced in the state of Illinois (U.S.) that the price of a driver's license is going to triple.................TRIPLE!!!!! How can an item like a driver's license, which is a requirement of every driver, TRIPLE!!!! They have ignored the roads and highways and they got into horrible condition, the bridges rusting, so we can buy tanks, planes and all that, now we are realizing the roads are in a mess. So, let's raise the price of a necessary thing like a driver's license to pay for the repairs. Just pathetic. There are many poor people that have a terrible time trying to pay for toilet tissue and we rise the prices. BTW, have you heard the school requesting that parents send a roll of toilet paper to school with their child because they can't afford it?

Nile, the USPS is not the only ones with high prices.
Most small diecast with shipping box would weigh about 300grams or a little over half a pound.
To send Airmail to most destinations from Canada would be $15.80CDN or $14.90US.
Many times it's cheaper to send to the US than to other provinces here in Canada.
I suspect that many EBay sales go amiss due to shipping costs that are out of my hands. I charge exactly what it costs me.
Then try to find a lightweight but sturdy box for shipping without causing
the cost to jump to the next rate.
Worldwide phenominom(?) I'm sure.
It seems that the UK has many small packet rates just to make things
even more confusing. Vent over...
Cheers Steve

Nile, we have these things as well. We pay big amounts for road tax, (for my car I pay about 100 euros a month).
Don't know if it is off-topic, but talking about education..... The most ridiculous thing happened to me a few days ago: I told you my employer, who sacked me, was told by court he had to take me back. That is set now. But he does not want me to work for my wages. So, as an in between settlement, we agreed on the status quo:I will substitute with other employers, which income they will take of my full wages, which I get from my employer.
Now, I have been sustituting for almost 3 years now. Last week a headmaster, (I worked before on his school), wanted to book me (diary on the net). He could do so in November, but not a single day in October. So I looked, and there were no bookings in October. So I rang the counsil, and finally got through to someone who said I was on her 'list' of people to ring, and that she apologized. I asked what for, and then it came:
BEFORE the summer holidays 'they' decided to kick me out of their system for 3 months, because if not, the law says they have ot offer me a steady job, after 3 years of working for them........I could not believe my ears. (Only then it became clear to me why I didn't have any work after the summer holidays.) Not because the law is the law, but the fact they did not inform me, nor did they inform the schools, of this. I asked how long I had been on her 'list' .....she could not answer.
They don't know I have a full income with my steady employer, so by not telling me they actually steal my food! I could have worked for a different employer, no problem. So I wrote a complaint.........which I did not send yet.......because my steady employer knows as well what the rule is: 3 years-offer steady job......which could have meant he could have got rid of me without paying a final handshake....
So here we are: a school where the childeren were sent home, because they do not have a teacher, a headmaster that wants me, and me, a teacher that wants to work, but is not allowed to.............

That is just crazy, Keesie, "political correctness" gone totally mad.
As for those poor kids having to take their own toilet paper to school, well, words fail me.
Mind you, at least they could take quilted soft, and not like the horrible scratchy "hard" paper we had at school! (You know the stuff, bend it over a comb, and you had a "musical instrument" that would "play" any tune you choose....much better and far easier than a recorder)!!!!!

Wasn't that called San Izal or something like that. Reminded me of greaseproof paper. Ah memories of many, many years ago.

Another good one for you as I live near Pittsburgh PA. They introduced a drink tax on all drinks served in the bars. After a load of debate they settled on if the food brought X amount of the money in they could get around charging the tax. Then it comes out during the public outrage that the money will be used to fund the public transit which thanks to the outrageous unions was going broke to pay its people. Now several months later the city is claiming they are bringing in TENFOLD the money they planned, the transit is broke and no one knows where this lump of several millions has gone.............
theres only one solution in my mind. If we fail at our jobs out employer can walk in and fire us at the drop of a hat............Why cant we fire the politicians in the same manner????
