Return to Model cars

Hello,

I am Italian living in Surrey and had a great passion for model cars when I was young (up to age 14, I think!), I am now 47.

Recently talking to my older brother, we started wondering what happened to all our old model cars collection (why did we give them away?). We used to have mainly Italian models (Politoys) which were great, but also some Corgi, Matchbox (I still remember those Blue boxes!) and others I'll never know....

So I started looking on eBay and sure enough I found lots of the old cars I used to play with, a real time warp! Funny that all the ones we had are now fetching small fortunes!

So I thought, well why not find some beat up cars and start restoring (fool!), hence my search for this Forum! I hope I'll be able to get some ideas, but also to share my knowledge of the old Italian cars, I anyone is interested!

So there you go, I have now 5 beat up Corgis and looking forward to getting them back on their...feet!

Regards to all,
Manlio

PS:  some time ago I came across a tin James Bond Aston Martin about a foot long with lights and other gadgets, however it's in a sorry state, if someone knows of this model and knows if any spares are available, I'd love to hear!

A warm welcome from the U.S.     You have come to the right place for ideas and information about restoring old toy cars. I have seen some cars in very sorry, sad states that have come back to life and look even better than they were when new. The prices for pristine mint toy cars are so prohibitively expense that the only way to acquire a decent collection is exactly the way you are beginning. You are also putting some of your own sweat equity into it which should give you a lot of satisfaction. Having a collection that started out as rubble and turned into suitable, displayable examples can give you a great deal of comfort. Always remember to take pictures of your cars before and after so you can show others. Some of your tips and methods that you encounter along the way might also be useful to other restorers. Even seasoned restorers are still learning new learning. Yo can teach an old dog new tricks. Happy collecting!!

A Warm Welcome, Manny, to what simply is the best Diecast Collectors and Restorers Forum on the Net.

Most of us like to try to find those toys we used to play with many years ago.

It's how I started, as I wanted to find all my old Dinky Toy models that I enjoyed so much until my Dad decieded that "I was getting "too old" for toys!, and gave them away (I think).

He also did the same with certain books that I owned, and I spent many years searching for a book that my Mother taught me to read when I was about four years old.

The name of this book was "Joey the Jeep", and a couple of years ago I actually managed to locate a copy of it in America, thanks to the Internet.

It cost me a small fortune to buy it and have it sent over to England, but it was worth every penny!

Don't you mean the part of the country where Spenny lives as there are a lot of members that live in the same country as Manny

Kees stop trying to start an argument especially in front of a new member

You are spoiling things Scotty, because you do not only interfere with no purpose, you cannot stand a joke either. Everyone knows a saying like: "Funny that you choose to live in the country where Spenny lives" is a joke.

Got over your self kees its clear you don't like me but to start an argument in front of a new member is not on.

And as for not standing a joke you are bang out of order saying that you are the one going on and on about it its people like you that are making me decide to leave this forum as its not as friendly as it used to be.

You can reply here all you want and i will not reply as its not a nice thing to do in the Introductions section.
keesie25

Just take care of your own things Scotty.
