Hi!
My name is Darren and I posted yesterday under the Dinky toy heading, and it was suggested that I introduce myself, so here I am.

I live in Santa Barbara, CA,I am 34, and I work as a digital technician for advertising photographers. At least for now.  I'm not really a diecast collector per se, but I am helping my grandfather go through his enormous collections of trains, toys, etc. He has mainly trains, but also a large assortment of other toys, including diecast. He has some old Dinky, Matchbox, Tootsietoy, and many others. He had a lot of old Hot Wheels, but he gave them to my dad who has started his own (much more organized) Hot Wheels collection.

Although my grandfather has managed to accumulate a lot of things, he's not a collector, in the sense that he doesn't know what he has or where. A lot of the really cool things I've found were buried beneath stacks of other things. I'll attach a photo so you can all see what it looks like.

So, I've taken it upon myself to learn more about these great old toys, and help him to narrow down and organize his collection. Unfortunately, I live 45 minutes away and don't get down there as often as I'd like, so this may take me a long time. I'll be posting in the Dinky Toys section for now, but once that has been organized, I'll probably check out other brands as well.

I really appreciate you all taking time to help introduce a new guy to the world of diecast collecting!

and as I said under your other post   I would be in heaven if I could get amongst that lot.

Wow! That's one hell of a collection. Welcome Darren, you've come to the right place for some good advice. I think we'll have to organise a trip to Santa Barbara and come and give you a hand! It looks like you'll need it.

Hi Darren, welcome in  here. I say praise your grandfather, as he had the right view for the future! I sure hope you will get the hang of collecting diecast too. If not, there are plenty of people here that want to take them out of your hands. If you let me help you make an inventory of things, I will bring a big bag.

Hi, Darren

A warm welcome from Elgin, IL. Sometime ago I lived in Lompoc and I miss that place. Nice place. I would imagine most of the collection is of U.S. toys. I am a collector of trains and toys both, so I can help you identify them. Welcome to the friendliest bunch on the internet. You will get lots of good advice on here.

Nice one, Darren. Welcome.

Hi  Dareen and welcome. You certainaly have an Alladin's cave of goodies.
You'll find plenty of help here, it's nice to sort through them all but I don't envy you the task of selling. You could use an auction house, I believe you can negotiate a good deal on large collections.
Good luck!
