IntroductionHi All, I'm a new forum member. I'm Jim from Victoria, British Columbia and I have been collecting Dinky toys for the past 10 years or so. I used to hoard them when I was a wee one in Scotland and I wish I'd held on to them now!
I have recently taken an interest in restorations and I am starting off with a rusty old BOAC bus that my brother-in-law unearthed from his garden in Somerset to be followed by a Packard concvertible so I'm hoping to get some valuable knowlege from other forum members.
I'm retired now an d enjoy sailing, camping and life on Canada's Pacific coast where there are still lots of old English cars running around.

NewbieHello westfifer and a big welcome from the U.S. You picked a splendid model to restore. The BOAC bus has graphics that you can probably obtain from a parts supplier. Painting it is pretty straight forward. The BOAC bus is a cute little model. Best of luck in doing it. Help can be obtained on here. First of course strip all the paint off it. Maybe take a picture of it first so you can show the original condition, also for a guide as to the scheme of the paint decoration.

Hello, and Welcome Jim.
We all await pictures of the restored BOAC.
You may have seen it on the board, but there is usually a monthly restoration competition, perfect for your Coach when finished.

BOAC BusThanks for all the kind words! The BOAC bus was found in a garden so while the main body is good, the base plate is a bit rusty and damaged. Any suggestions for removal/replacement?
Cheers from the Pacific vcoast of Canada-Westfifer

Welcome Jim. I'm new to this hobby just like you and got some great help from the members
A word of caution though....
IT'S VERY ADDICTIVE!
I'm already on my 4th restoration...

DinkyYes to the base plate. Remove it carefully by drilling out the rivets and put the base plate in vinegar. I've never done it but others have on here and the results are great. Naval Jelly will do it too.

Hi JimHullotherjim
From one Scots expat to another you have found the best toy forum there is. Lots of knowledge and help here as well as some irreverent humour.
