Hello from an inveterate model maker!

Hi,
I am one of those people who just adores making a scale model, ANY scale model and in any scale.  I'll try making them out of anything - plastic, metal, wood, cardboard or even living material (i.e. Bonsai trees - I can get them down to 1/12th scale but not managed 1/72nd yet, but I'm getting there!   ).

My second passion is making YouTube vids of my OO railway and a certain daft engine named Dave.

Diecast models have tended to be a means to an end for me. I couldn't find an AEC Regent or MCW Orion in Liverpool Corporation livery so I had to convert a couple of EFE ones, so I'm hoping that I'll pick up some hints and tips on how to do the next ones a lot better and to expand my rather poor knowledge of the world of diecast!

Have a look at my website and YouTube vids to get an idea of where I'm coming from.

Thanks Ken (and everyone), I'm still trawling through the old stuff.  It's a long job - every 2 minutes I think 'That's wonderful, wish I had one'  and 'OMG the detail' etc. etc.

Showing my ignorance now..... What's a 'Code 3'?
alice

would not have a clue what a code3 is. Welcome to the forum hope you enjoy yourself.

To answer your question re "Code Three's", Tom. A "Code Three" model is one that has been re-liveried or repainted or customised in some other way that is non-standard for the original Manufacturer, and deviates from the standard format for that particular model.

Some Code Three's are the product of over-imaginative minds, some are very tastefully "changed" and/or improved from the original specifications of the Manufacturer.

Thanks Sandie.  I wonder where the term originates?  Does anyone know?

Tom, I want you to know I could not bare most of the other UK members, so I moved to Holland yesterday.

A bit extreme but I can understand the reasoning.

Now that I know what code 3 is all about, thanks everyone.   I'll take some photos of my old diecasts to show you.  I think I've only got 1 that hasn't been 'got at' by me.

Hello Tom and welcome onboard. I see youve met Keesie then... ...

I've got more than one, but I'd have to say probably half my collection is restored or modified.

Tom here's a few code 3s for you

They can be one model made out of more than one doner

This was two Corgis

Or just changed from civilian to military

Green Goddess

Anything that changes it from what the maker intended, look forward to seeing yours

Tom, as you see, there are not many who reply on my remarks anymore, I guess they are used to it.....
It was a joke, I was in the UK for my holidays, and back in Holland now.
Guzzi Gadgy

If Keesie had stayed we were all moving to Holland
