Hello all!!Hi,
My name is Geoff, I am a retired Process Controls Systems Engineer and live in Wales.
My recent interest in Dinky Toys is most familiar story I am sure, but, here goes...
I had quite a large collection in the middle 1950's to 1960. I took great care of them (as I did with all my possessions and still do!!!) and kept them in their boxes. As I grew up my interests became girls, motorcycles and playing guitar in various blues bands, so the Dinky collection got put into storage!! I completed my engineering training and worked away...
One day after setting up my own place to live, I decided I would retrieve my collection in the early 1970's only to find my mother had donated the lot to a young cousin of mine a few years earlier...only a few of them at that time survived that was worth keeping....!!
This takes us to current times... I had some mahogany shelving hanging around for ages and decided to make a wall display cabinet to house some of my old Hornby stuff and the few surviving Dinky Toys... One thing leads to another and eBay takes an expensive hammering. From my late parents estate, I retrived an old wall cupboard that had been painted and painted to the extent that Nitromos had a good year. But, below all the old paint...it was mahogany! The rest is history, the collection continues. I am not an investor, but, try to obtain reasonable playworn examples in a casual sort of manner, I suppose it's a nostalgia thing.
Many thanks to Cam Bailey who introduced my to this website - I am sure it will be interesting.
Remember, everything is temporary, enjoy your hobbie(s), but people who influence us, and we who influence them with respect all round is more important!

Hello there Geoff, welcome to you. Thanks for your long introduction, I am sure you will have a good time in here. There are a lot of members you can talk to about things you need, any to buy or sell, or most important, want to restore! We are all curious about the models in your collection, so maybe you can post some pictures!
O, and eh....the story about your vanished models happened to a lot of us, because we all had cousins.

Good to have you on board, Geoff. I also like Dinky's, and it was because of re-starting my Dinky Collection again that I became involved with many other aspects of Model Cars.
Enjoy the Forum.

Geoff - and thanks to Cam... this is a truly international forum and you'll enjoy it here. I almost share your Dinky experience except that I managed to rescue my boyhood collection from my mum just before she gave it away. They were almost all military Dinkies and they now form the nucleus of my mainly army collection...
