Greetings from Toronto

Hello all, great forum.  I'm a newbie, but have been following the competitions and other postings for a while.

I'm a lawyer in Toronto, Canada, 2 kids and a wife who is patient with my hobby but really doesn't "get it".

I started with Dinky militaries and have most English models; still lots of $$ French ones left to get.  Have expanded into Corgi, Matchbox, Solido and Tekno, all pre-1970, of all sorts, with a preference for commercial vehicles.  At a few hundred, a modest collection, but not bad for a short time.

I mostly buy on eBay, with only a few duds.  The real pleasure is finding an underpriced model in a flea market or antique store, which I have managed to do in all sorts of places, New York City, Quebec City, etc.  The hard part is stealing time on vacations to find the right stores (usually to find they closed 5 years ago).

My passion started with the real thing, English sports cars.  Limited time, with 2 kids, has squeezed out that to a large extent, although I still have a pristine 1977 Triumph Spitfire with very low km (we can't drive half the year here!).

Best regards,
Pitman Patterson

Re: Greetings from Toronto

Hi there Pitman, welcome to you from the other side of the globe.
You can talk to me, if you are into pre-70 models!

Being a lawyer you could be a help, because some of us have trouble with Ebay sometimes......glad your wife doesn't get your hobby, eh?

So, whatever you do, don't grab a chair, if Mister C is around. Just a small warning. O, and eh, are you into oranges?

hope you enjoy your stay with us

Hello &    Jaffaman (did you get that name for the same reason as Boycie from Only Fools & Horses???       ...unless you watch UK TV you'll not have a clue what I'm going on about!).

Great to have you with us - plenty of people here with the same collecting interests as you - lots to talk about.  It'll be interesting to see what you make of the Corgi range compared to Dinky.

He he, what's wrong with "keesie"......Mister C
See Jaffaman, there are members here that spend more time HERE than on their actual hobby, AND those keep other serious members OFF their hobby, because they are forced to answer.......

Be gentle with him I wouldn't want to see you with a restraining order placed on you.

Mind you who would ever be able to restrain MISTER C

Jaffaman, you'll find lots of like minded souls on here, all waiting to impart advice at the drop of a hat    Nice to see out Canadian contingent growing, my bruv lives in Toronto and he likes it, so it can't be all bad !
Jaffaman

Thanks for welcome!  Jaffaman, yes, unusual - my wife is a Kiwi, and while there some time ago I got into Jaffa candies...funny how it doesn't quite translate across the pond(s).

As for Only Fools, haven't got a clue - have seen some diecast with that reference, but the only Br TV I watch is Little Britain, rugby and the odd Premier League game.

As for delay in response - remember the time diff!  Gotta run, the child calls.
keesie25

great

Great you are with us Jaffaman! Good that you can stand our little teaser jokes. About "jaffa", you called yourself after a sort of candy.
I never hear of that, but the fact I am going on about it being fruit, an orange in fact, is, that we have oranges and I believe bananas also, that carry jaffa-stickers in the supermarket.
