It's in the original film (made a bit nicer) and in the book - Roald Dahl knew that kids like things a bit rude. His books were a welcome treat to read to the kids as they made me laugh as much as them - but they were never sanitised or prettified which is why I was surprised how good some of the films were as Hollywood usually misses the point and takes out what it is that makes stories like that work. Both of the Willi Wonka films and Matilda all hit the spot - having a daughter of my own I loved Matilda.
Does anyone else with grown up kids miss going to the pictures to see the kids' movies? Mine won't go with us any more to see Pixar type movies and we feel a bit self concious going to see them without kids in tow. Judith has been reduced to buying them the DVDs for birthdays and Christmas so we can watch them at home. |
