Driving Test

Today, (after the best part of 40 lessons!) I took my first practical driving test and passed, although 'just about' according to the examiner with 8 minor faults out of a maximum of 15    Although I suppose the stress of it all can cause everyone to make silly little mistakes I guess    Anyway this is just the beginning of a lifetime of driving and I will try my best to eradicate these faults over time

I'll be starting the 'Pass Plus' scheme on Friday, which aims to develop attitudes and skills which are essential for new drivers by using various types of driving conditions, including motorways, rural roads and night driving

Good luck Daniel it was a lot simpler in our day

Well done mate!!! Best wishes with the pass plus too, could have done with that after I passed in November 1990 - I paid for refresfer lessons a year or so after and did a motorway lesson!

Great news, Just think of all the toyfairs and bootsales you can visit out of town ....

Well done Daniel!

Well done Daniel

I'm so glad you are doing the Pass Plus course, you'll definitely benefit from it.  I did a 'defensive driving' course and I have to say that anyone who takes any pride in their driving should do one or the other (or preferably BOTH!).

I'm very happy for you

well done mate  it took me 2 attempts to pass  i failed cause i went the wrong way down a 1 way street  but he did say next on your left good luck with the pass plus
sandie seward

Nice one, Daniel, it took me two attempts before I passed, mind you that was back in the Dark Ages...1962 to be precise!

Took my test in an Austin A40 Farina.

Congratulations!

Congrats on passing your test, Dan

I never did any pass plus lessons after I passed my test. A few of my friends took them at a cost of about £200 and claimed that they got money off their insurance, but when I looked into it, that wasn't quite true. The insurance companies who did offer discounts for people with pass plus certificates were a lot more expensive in the first place than other companies that didn't offer discounts.

Unless you definately know you could get money off your insurance to make doing a pass plus worthwhile, you could ask you dad to take you out on the motorway, at night, on rural roads etc. That's what I did

Sandie I passed mine two years after you '64 we started with Austin Champs on the Drill Square, we had civilian instructors and examiners. Can't remember any one who did'nt pass

very true my girlfriend did the same thing and there wasnt much difference in prices at all, but to give you confidence motorway driving is much easier than normal round town, just take it easy on the inside lane,it looks a bit nerve racking to get on but once your on then it is easy
Andrew

Well done, congratulations
bulldog_68

Good news on passed your test you should be very proud of yourself.

Congratulations Daniel, may you have many many miles of safe driving ahead of of you.

I passed my test in even darker ages than Sandie, on 26th July 1960 at 11.00am in a Ford 105E Anglia in what was then West Hartlepool (now just plain Hartlepool).

No endorsements, no penalty points, no accidents, no parking tickets. Including over twenty years of driving class one HGV on distance and local work.

Am I a saint or have I just been lucky?

Congratulations again Daniel, I don't think I could do it now!

Well done Daniel! Happy motoring

Good news Daniel well done

This thread isn't good for me..   ...

Jim's post led me to think about my driving history and a rather large number came out.

With IBM for 34 year, had 15 company cars, all went back with over 30k on the clock.  And that adds up to (get calculator out) 450,000 miles!  Sitting on me bum!

OK, I got one speeding ticket    and 2 dents.  Not bad, I suppose.... I guess I was lucky, just like Jim
Andrew

Just done a quick tot-up and got to 750,000 miles in cars that were mine or company cars - add to that motorbikes, miles driven in my wife's cars etc and it must be over 800,000 miles

Thankfully no accidents at all - but a number of speeding tickets over the years, 9 points at worst, but licence has been clean for a number of years now.
