Day Ruined

Well last night will certainly be one to remember. HMS Illustrious is visiting Liverpool this week and I was invited to a party onboard. As a tea total for more than 20 years I decided this would be a good oppertunity to catch up for lost time. The evening was going well and I was feeling pretty drunk. after dancing the feet off myself It was time for the fun to begin.   A group of Marines decided to start a game of The captains table. The Idea is to do a forward roll along a table and land in an armchair at the other end. after a few succesful attempts I decided to up the stakes. What about 2 forward rolls . My first go was declared void as I had trouble just staying on the table. Not to be out done I  took a run up to the table. Perfect take off...Beaitiful double roll...Thats were It all went spectacularly wrong... The chair landing was very hard and the legs snapped..... I ended up in a heap on the floor holding my shoulder...Time for a Brandy.....The night ended with a firwork display and I bid my comrades a fond fairwell. I woke this morning with a banging headache and covered in bruises. I was supposed to be going to lincoln toyfair today but think Its unwise to be driving. Instead I am on the couch feeling sorry for myself and Violet has gone to work. Never again.........

Feeling much better now.  I have just been for a run around the park and had a bacon buttie and cup of tea. I do have a large bruise on my shoulder though and its a little stiff. I telephoned my buddy onboard ship about 20 mins ago and he said they partied till 5am, slept till 10am, and have all been running, showered and are ready for a day drinking in town. I will give that a miss...

Sounds like a bang up party. I would like to have seen the festivities. Must have been a laugh a minute. Reminds me of my younger days. Oh myyyyyyy........

I think the party may of been up your street. There was a race around the flight deck between a Marine and a Junior rating. (Naked)
Yes our boy won...... There  underpants ended up in the Mersey....

Oooops! Hope you get better CK and a cracking pic of the plane! Harrier jump jet??
Old Tom

You really should have known better with you being an ex-Marine Gary!

Still, I bet you enjoyed every minute   .

It looks like Lusty is alongside at Birkenhead.  How did you manage to get home?  Swim?
Corgi kid

Mark you are right, the aircraft is a Harrier GR4.
Tom the Carrier was berthed at the Pier Head on the cruise liner berth. I had to get a taxi home as my alcohol intake was quite exessive . I have just been out for tea with a few bootnecks to Nanos Italian restaurant. It was lovely. They are leaving Tuesday for the Gulf. A big thanks to everybody of 42 Commando and of course the Naval rating for making me and Violet so welcome. Good luck for operation Brave Sword.

Your joking Tom, they are the worst offenders.

That's funny. I love it. The plane is a beautiful one, What lines.

We had a party once in my younger years where it lasted for 3 days. The only thing you had to bring was a bottle of something. No beer, no wine, and alcoholic required, of course. When someone came to the door it was a celebration, lots of excitement to see what they had brought.  Then it was a rite to all to en masse follow the leader into the bathroom where the contents were poured with great revelry into the bathtub. It was then all stirred with a canoe paddle. We had a ladle that we used to dip into this mixture and pour a drink. There was scotch, gin, vodka, tequila, whiskey, bourbon, ouzo, and some others I can't even remember. Then we had a race around the house about 3:00 AM  naked. What a party until the neighbors called the police on us. I will never forget that. I wouldn't, or couldn't, do that now. Those days are over.

Great picture there Corgi Kid, with the Liver Building in the background, and I know you said the Navy were accommodating, but how did you manage to get the ships company to line the balcony for that shot ?

Seriously, would have loved a tour of an Invincible class carrier, must have been a great day. I am surprised and pleased to see a Harrier there and on a jump ramp as well. I thought I'd heard that the Navy no longer had any Harrier squadrons, and that all the carriers had been converted for helicopter use only.

I could tell some stories... I've been quite naughty, you know... but I won't do!

But Nile remembered me about a funny (somewhat disgusting) one...

Probably every single person that has been holidaying in Spain is familiar with the "Sangria" drink. A very refreshing (but dangerous) mix of red wine and an unspecified amount of sweet spirits and lemonade, plus chunks of fruit.

It's usual made in big bowls, then you add loads of ice... probably you get the picture... enters like water...

So, we were partying with some friends in a beach house. We decided to prepare a big bowl of sangria in an enormous plastic bowl. One of my friends and myself were officially designated in charge of the preparation of the stuff, while the rest flew off to the beach with the girls. It didn't matter, we did the job, then, headed to the beach with that huge bowl the pair of us.

We were dressed only with our swimming trunks, not even flip-flops, and you know, the sun in summer Spain is really ruthless... our feet were in flames, walking in that hot pavement. So, we did a stop and put our feet inside that cool, comforting bowl for a few seconds... then, headed to the beach again. We did the feet dip maybe two times more.

Then, we arrived, and the sangria was of course entirely consumed... even the carriers drank without problem!

Another time, another place...

That is indeed disgusting Pepe.......you are 'asking' to get thrown out of our forum.....on the other hand, to make wine, the farmer's family uses bare feet to squeeze the juice out.......
Spenny

you missed the great sweet handout CK

Me and my grandma went to se illustrious on saturday, cant beleive how many helicopters that thing must carry there was about 5 on the ground being displayed and we seen another 7 on the deck! Unfortunately we werent allowed onto the ship as it wasnt open but it was massive! Did you not go and see the queen mary 2 the other day?
