CRB

Just wondering what you guys think of the CRB checks that are going to happen.
I have had to have a CRB check for the last 10yrs and it is renewed every 3 yrs with me working with kids.
I am on another forum (not cars) and alot of them are not to happy about it mind you there is a couple who have gone overboard with it, one even saying he is going to write to Gordon Brown

What does CRB stand for Alice?
alice

Criminal Records Bureau. This is so the Authorities can do a police check on you.

A little more information on it.

CRB

Down here there is a similar thing called a Blue Card if you are working anywhere near kids. Not a bad idea if it works but still some evil people get through the net.

Do you have to pay to have one of these checks Alice ??
alice

No i do  not pay the school pays for them, it is up to the people in charge to get them done ie if you working in an old peoples home, if they are council run it is down to the council not the person themselves.
ALI-G

Good to hear you don't have to pay

i Heard a debate on the radio about an author who comes into schools free of charge and reads to children
a about three times a year and he was saying I'm not going pay out my money to be checked out
alice

I think what they are saying is if you work in a school more than 3 days a month or with the elderly you have to have a CRB but it is down to the organisation to pay for it, not the intervidual.
Duncan

I do a lot with my kids school and I'm very happy to be CRB checked. Can't see why anyone wouldn't.
alice

That is what i think, why would people complain when all they are trying to do is protect the children and elderly.
Andrew

There were some good points made on the radio on Saturday - someone said you need a separate check for each activity - so if you teach music at five different schools you need 5 CRB checks - if this is true it is just silly. Surely a certification process would make more sense.

The idea is right, it needs though to be done sensibly as well as thoroughly.

Your happy to be checked Duncan, because your quite confident that youv'e got nothing to hide, that's why, the same reason I'd be happy to be checked if worked with kids or the elderly.

Hang on, does that mean I'll have to be checked if I keep going out with Guzzi & his mate Stan?.....

I totally agree Andrew. I used to drive the mini bus at my wife's school and they had to pay for my CRB check, then my wife changed schools and the new one had to pay again for me to drive their bus.  Certification would be the best solution.

My wife had to pay £15.00 for her CRB, but that's not too much to pay where children and vulnerable adults are concerned.

There was a loophole where taxi drivers were concerned where if a taxi company were given a contract to transport children to special schools, the company could then subcontract the work to a third party with no licence checks or vehicle checks.
I do hope that loophole was closed, does anybody here know?
alice

Every school you work in you need a CRB check done whether it is one or five schools each school has to prove that they have these checks in place when OFSTED come in.

I had to have a CRB check when I started on the buses as I occasionally drive the "school specials". The company paid for it. If you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to worry about.
