8) For those of you who don't know me, my name is Sandie, I'm retired, and enjoying it, and I collect Diecasts, mostly 1/43 scale, Records, (vinyl),
Railway books and memorabilia, and old tins! I don't mean the type you recycle,(or should recycle), but old and interesting Tea tins, sweet tins, biscuit tins, and cigarette tins.
I live somewhere in South Essex, I have a 13 year old dog, called Shannon, whose supposed to be a Dandie Dinmont Terrier, but I'm not too sure about that, (and neither is she,).
I enjoy watching videos, listening to music, and driving, and walking.
There, at our Founders request, there's a bit about me, now lets hear about you,
Regards, Sandie. _________________ Regards, Sandie.

Hi All,
My name is Ken (as in my username, I'm 51 and 3/4s and live in a village in Cambridgeshire. I've been divorced for 15yrs and live on my own. I find this greatly helps with the diecast collecting ! I collect Corgi Modern trucks 1/50th scale and currently have about 100 models, I also collect construction models and this collection numbers about 600 and last but not least is a small collection of 1/76th buses and a few assorted models that have taken my fancy over the years.
Apart from the models, I enjoy listening to music, mainly the 60s and 70s and reading, usually at the same time. I travel quite a bit on business, I'm the technical director of a company that is involved in the aerospace and defence industries, so i get to find loads of little model shops when I'm out and about.
I originally hail from the North East, Tynemouth to be precise, and do actually get to go back occasionally.
There, thats it, a potted history of a lonely collector ! _________________ Noli aliquid facere quod non faciam ! |

Yes it's me again. Having been labelled super gob some of you may feel you have heard enough already but I thought I may as well tell you about myself.
My name is Anthony and I pushing 50. I started in the model trade in 1982 working for what was then one of the leading model car specialists in the world. my boss sold the business so I launched my own shop for 7 years and for 5 years this was based at Brands hatch Circuit until the recession got me. Brands was great but it didn't make me any money!
My next job was to launch and run a models and racewear shop and help relaunch Hawke Racing Cars with a new Formula Renault Sport car but the owner ran out of money after we got the car to the mock up stage.
I then worked for Carr Collectables for about 7 years before being made redundant at the end of 2004 and have been scraping around to make a living ever since as opportunities in the model trade are few and far between now.
As a teenager I worked at the local speedway track on Saturdays and the local aircraft museum on Sundays then spent my summer weekends for several years as mechanic to a grass track rider. I have ridden intermittently in motorcycle trials for over 30 years and have won no awards except one for the dirtiest face at the Press and Trade Barons trial but have enjoyed competing immensely.
I have dabbled in motorsport/aviation photography, built plastic and whitemetal/resin kits and had a go at aeromodelling.
I currently have a car and motorcycle to restore as money permits and still have my trials bike which I bought new nearly 30 years ago.
As most of you know I have some fairly blunt views on the state of the model trade but having worked in the trade for a long time I have seen the rot setting in over a long period and am disappointed that no one in the industry seems to be doing much to work towards getting things back on an even keel.
My interests are classic cars, motorsport (sorry not into banger racing as I spent too much time in my teens picking up the broken bits from the speedway track), motorcycles and aviation.
At one time my collection included over 400 unbuilt 1/43 kits. Now I have a small but varied collection which includes 1/43 and 1/18 cars, diecast aircraft, motorcycles and a few tinplate trains. It has no theme they are just things which I enjoy owning and some have sentimental value.
Thats about it. I am sorry if some of my views appear controversial but not all of you are aware of what goes on from the other side of the counter and if you know the trade side of the story things are not always as they seem to be from the collecting side. |

Hello all - I'm Duncan, as the user name suggests! I am 35, live near Oxford with my partner (who's attitude to my collecting hobby is best summed up as:  ) and our two children ages 5 and 3. I am an Estate Manager and part qualified building surveyor...and likely to remain 'part' qualified if my recent studies are anything to go by!
I got into diecast collecting about 5 years ago when I bought my daughter the Corgi Noddy car collection with the aim of stashing it away in the loft. Soon after I discovered ebay, the DC magazine and within a couple of years had a collection of several hundred diecasts! I've now sold the majority and aim to keep my collection to no more than I can store in the one cupboard I'm 'allowed' at home!!!!
I prefer to collect 1/32 and 1/43 scales and generally collect vintage toys, TV/Film models, agricultural toys/models, Land Rovers and cars/trucks from around the world. I also collect vehicles I've previously owned/driven but to be honest I tend to buy whatever takes my fancy!
I have lots of other interests but sadly never seem to have the time to do much about them, I used to scuba dive a good bit but children and a mortgage have put pay to that! I was learning to fly (gliders and light aircraft) a while ago but will have to wait for that elusive lottery win before I can see that one through. I enjoy music and try to see as much live music as I can, I love film, 80's nostalgia and Marvel/DC superheros too. The list goes on and on!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Gary and everyone else who keeps this site going - I am a DC Forum convert and am very glad I made the change. Well done for creating a great environment for all diecast nuts to chat and bounce ideas off each other.
Regards
Duncan.
PS - Alex, I only wish I had started collecting at 14! Good for you - your contributions to this forum are as valid as anyone's. |

I have only just posted in this section as if I said this earlier, none of you would take my posts seriously. I am 13 years old. I started collecting when I was about 7 years old, but I always avoided poor condition corgis and dinkys or stuff with missing tyres etc , but back then I didn't know they were worth much... My name is Daniel, as most of you know, and like many of you, a dc forum convert. My hobbies are diecasts, classic cars, and banger racing. Some of the postings about the wednesday antiques market etc are by my dad :) , who looks out for diecasts when he is out and about, and he knows people who do house clearences and tells them to also look out for models :D . Most of my collection is old corgi, dinky and matchbox, often playworn as I don't have a big budget but I also have some cararama, modern corgi and vanguards. I also collect car badges, from banger racers and (dare I say it) dumped cars and car adverts from newspapers, magazines etc (old and new). Hope my age does not affect the way you see me!!
