My entry for the competition.

Probably not to everyone's taste but there is more to diecast than just cars and lorries and this IS a DIECAST forum

This sorry looking model was purchased off Ebay

It is the Dinky 702 Comet.

a couple of more 'before' pics

My late Dad used to work on the Nimrod production line at Bae in Woodford and, as a youngster, I managed to wangle a couple of flights in these aircraft.
The Nimrod was developed from the Comet so I thought I would create a Nimrod in memory of my Dad.

This particular model depicts the prototype that was tested by the Royal Aircraft establishment at Farnborough shown below

First of all the model was stripped apart to its components

After all paint had been stripped the process of building up the new shape began.
This involved using Milliput that was shaped and carved  and moulded onto the original fuselage.

The extra wing tanks were also moulded using Milliput as well as the extendended tail section.
The fillets on the tail fin were added using plasticard.

After smoothing and sanding the model was given a coat of grey primer.

followed by the white satin for the fuselage top

This was then masked and the wings and underbody were sprayed in satin grey.

The model was then masked again and the red tailparts painted.

After a couple of finishing touches such as the windows, wheels and decals the model is finally finished.

and this is the nimrod passing over my huse on its first test flight
